Shorts: RES Denim
so boyfriend shorts. a new concept for me. it took me long enough to find a pair of boyfriend jeans that didn’t make me look like an actual male, but once i found one pair it all seemed to get easier from there. however shorts i feel are a little less mainstream when it comes to the ‘boyfriend’ category. they’re the kind of thing that i always saw on models (or people who looked like models) and thought i could never wear. so i was thrilled when i tried on a pair and through that i actually looked semi-cool. the shorts actually look cool just with converses (classic) or ankle boots, but i tried to experiment a little with my footwear.
now, we need to discuss these shoes. i am not entirely sure if they’re cool, or make me look like i have animal feet? i feel slightly like i have hooves for feet. but then when i turn on the side i like their profile. this is one of my better shoe-outfit combos though. ah, we try and at times we fail, and other times we have no idea if we’ve passed or failed. but we must at least try!
Jumper: from Pigeon Hole (can’t remember the brand and it’s in the wash. TBC hehe)
Jeans: Cheap Monday
Shoes: Senso – Rhiannon
today I am talking about my current work staples of the non-stationery kind. i’ve recently started a new job at scene model management. essentially just helping on the desk with booking models to jobs. but also updating social media and other general help stuff. soooo, i work in an office for the first time in my life. i’d say it’s considerably more relaxed than other offices, as i wear jeans nearly every day. apparently there’s no dress code. this can be seen either as complete and utter freedom, or as not enough direction. for me, i’ve never had my entire wardrobe to choose from when going to work. in fact, in most of my dressing occasions i feel i have some sort of limitation / expectation as to what i should wear. at scene i’ve been given free reign. so in order to keep it cool and casual yet like i care about my job, i’ve been wearing completely casual outfits while adding one of the following:
a) HEELS. nothing crazy, just something to give me a little more spring in my step
b) JEWELLERY. a statement necklace in most cases, as a garnish to my t-shirt
c) LIPSTICK. the absolute easiest way to appear as though you’ve put in more effort than you have.
i must say, the other day i wore heels and lipstick. the people of the perth CBD couldn’t quite handle how much effort i had put in to my outfit. i could feel it in their eyes as they looked me up and down. that, or they liked my shoes. (hoping for option two.) still haven’t been street style snapped, so i must be missing something. joking. i take enough photos of myself. speaking of which, these images were captured with my friend’s cannon 5d mark ii and i am loving the full frame. it’s opening maddy and i’s eyes up to a whole new world of possibilities. you wouldn’t believe how dark it was when we took these. so, we are investing in a new cam. yay! we’ll keep ya posted. and if you haven’t, follow us on the gram. we tend to update that a little more than here!
yep. you got it – skin season is upon us.
with this current weather, we need to be prepared. one day i will be wearing jeans and a jumper, and the next day i’m practically forced to show my skin in some way on some limb, and i freak out! i feel like this happens every year. it’s always a terrible push in the deep end. no learning to swim and wading in shallow waters – straight in! so, what i have been trying to do is show one main area of skin at a time. the whole singlet and shorts thing just isn’t going to work for me right now. in order for me to leave my house i need to be at least 60% comfortable with showing my skin. so i’m doing it in sections. today i opted for the legs as i thought they were a little lower than the average persons eye line. so, you know, less attention? not sure if the theory works at all, but it does in my mind. i must say however, my skin looks rather smooth with this little edit that i did on these pics. but don’t be fooled, a little fake tan and some nifty photoshop can make any pale, blotchy girl look ready for summer. but unfortunately we don’t all see through photoshopped glasses, we see reality. so, it’s official time to get this skin prep happening so we are all free to wear whatever we want! woohoo!
blouse: Seed Herritage
jacket: From a Boutique in Brooklyn
jeans: Nobody Denim
so here we have it. what i call fool-proof dressing. a comfortable pair of jeans, and a leather jacket. for me the shoes and top are changeable. the options there are endless. i love the brown jacket here instead of black. i think that black is slightly more predictable (though still amazing and something that i always wear) and gives a slightly less ‘matchy’ feel to the outfit. when the basis of your outfit is black and white, you really can add whatever colour you want. this blouse is actually sleevless. i kind of love the shape because it’s essentially a sack. it allows you to manipulate the shape a little. it still looks flowing when you tuck it in to your jeans. it’s actually 3 sizes too big for me, but because of the style the size is far less important. (it was also on sale for $30, which played in persuading me!) also on sale were these boots! I have been wanting a pair of lace-up boots for a while now, but for some reason i found it hard to spend the money on them. you know there are some things in life that you just buy without reason! you don’t care about price you just want it! (me on so many occasions) but then there are those things that no matter how much you wish it was in your wardrobe every time you’re getting changed, you just don’t quite want to pay for it. this could just be me, or the nature of a woman??? i just want what i want, not always what i need! (like all i really needed was a pair of lace-up boots.)
anyway, enough babble. perhaps one day i will get better at controlling my thoughts. maybe i will even collect them in such a way that they could be understood. i do wonder if i used correct grammar whether it would make my random thought processes slightly easier to follow? and here i go again. jotting down my continual train of thought in a series of short and unrelated sentences. so, in true reflection of what this post is about, i would like to set a challenge to all readers. find a pair of jeans and a leather jacket that you love, and see just how many outfits (casual and smart) you can create with this as your shell. you might be surprised just how quickly you can pull together a great outfit under pressure!
