Dinner Parties

dinner parties. dinner parties. dinner parties.

dinner. dinner. dinner.

parties. parties. parties.

it’s all so exciting. for me, a good dinner party beats any night out on the town. there’s something that goes in to the preparation and being in the comfort of your own home that is just so lovely. don’t get me wrong, i love to go out for a great meal with great service and great company, but when you’re planning and preparing it all yourself, there’s a certain level of expectation. if you go a restaurant and they disappoint, you just don’t go back. but when it’s your home, you want people to return again and again. i don’t know, maybe i’ve put more thought in to this than the average person (probably.) i think i’ll put it down to my italian background, love for all things cute and weirdly obsessive compulsive tendencies? yeah. that pretty much sums it up.

so, i thought i would share my number one favourite aspect of these dinner parties (i really don’t have that many despite my overly positive vernacular.) i just love to set the dining table. create a whole atmosphere in the room. there is something about entering a space that you have been in before, but seeing it in a new light. the dim light and music playing, with oodles of candles and most likely a floral arrangement. it’s not just your ordinary dining room or backyard, it’s whatever you want it to be! yay! if the table that usually sits there doesn’t look quite right – move it! if you need to bring your couches outside – do it! it will honestly create a great atmosphere. so let’s say you can’t fit all the food on the table, a common occurrence in this household, why not lay it all out on another little table rather than cram everything in between your table setting?

i also think it’s nice to mesh the theme of the food with the theme of the room! the whole package usually gets people pretty excited! i like to come up with a name (don’t judge me), but something like ‘mediterranean nights’ or ‘the cabin’ or something else even more ridiculous. it generally helps to set a vibe for the night and gets people excited! it’s so nice to be excited about dinner! (the main source of my excitement probably) so, without confessing much more of my pedantic ways, let me share with you a few pictures of some fun food sharing moments that i have had in my life, and how i have loved to prepare every detail with my family!

yo yo yo wassup. long time no speak. crazy what’s happened since october. wait. what. october you say? that’s right.. october. my bad. doing exams and graduating from high school understandably is time consuming, but holiday season should be no excuse for the absence, (considering I’ve been plonked on my bed, all day everyday doing nothing but flipping through the instagram-tumblr-facebook-twitter-pinterest cycle of life. terrible, I know) but well, that’s exactly my excuse. literally been holidaying from all aspects of my life except social media and the occasional shift at work or dip in the pool. dani however is literally on holiday, and frolicking around disney world as we speak. but lets not dwell on that magical thought for too long, we may get jealous.

as the title suggests, it’s foodstagram time! and it’s making me hungry..

Foodstagram – Ep 1

Food,  Life and Love

if you’ve ever flicked through my instagram feed you’ll see 3 recurring themes: way too many sky shots, beautiful blooms, and of course… FOOD. the combination of photography and my favourite things is so enticing. pretty much if instagramming was a job, it would be my dream.

what you see is true – my life is surrounded by tastiness. i can’t escape it.

i’ll blame it on my dad. the man who’ll cook for hours on end to produce some delicious, exotic, and extravagant meal, that’s gone in no time at all. being overfed from a young age has had it’s downfalls (mostly in the form of love handles), but my love-hate relationship with food is a never ending story. food is a beautiful thing though really, which is why sometimes I can get carried away into this fantastical world of food creation. i love it. i hope you love it too.

hi. so there was a great part of my friday. i went to the city and caught up with my friend dave, and we ate great food and took photos as the day turned goregously sunny. firstly was sushi at aisuru in northbridge. i love firstly how black and white the space is, but also how they include trendy new flavours in to the sushi that make it a crafty blend of modern and traditional jap. this was followed by some photos in alleyways and other curious spaces (thank you, david). and finished with some chai and cookie at venn. a place i’d heard of but never been to. it’s a crazy hybrid empire of homewares, food, drink and art, which really impressed me. above you can see me instagramming a photo. something i seem to be brilliant at. instagram. if you’re interested, my user name is simply danielleosullivan. i’m pretty darn good at updating that thing.
so i’ve realised that many things i put on my blog tend to be ‘blog outfits’ where i don’t include my absolute every day wear items. so here’s a little taste of how i tend to look most days. i could live in jeans and converses. and fun tshirts are just fun. also i’m trying out a new way of telling you what i’m wearing. instead of including it in my word jungle i will make it loud and clear at the top. also will include links to these various garments wherever i can.
